Why LED?
The internet is full of scary claims about LED bulbs. Almost none of them hold up. Here is the whole story in one place: the real numbers, the real benefits, and honest answers to the myths.
LED has blue light in it.
Yes, and so does sunlight and the incandescent you grew up with. Every white light contains some blue, it is part of what makes white look white. What changes is how much: a warm 2700K bulb sits at the low end, the same kelvin as incandescent, while daylight bulbs and the midday sun have far more. The only light with essentially no blue is narrow colored light, like an amber bulb, a red bulb, or an old orange sodium street lamp.
A white LED does add a small blue peak, true. But a warm 2700K, 90 CRI bulb like ours stays low and smooth, nothing like a cool daylight bulb or the screen in your hand.
The case for LED is not close.

“LEDs damage your eyes and make you go blind.”
There is no solid research showing a warm household LED harms your eyes. The blue-light worry is about the screens we stare at inches from our face for hours, not a bulb across the room you are not even looking at. Choose a warm, quality bulb and your eyes are fine.
“They flicker and strain your nervous system.”
Cheap LEDs with poor drivers can flicker, faster than the eye can see. That is a quality problem, not an LED problem. A well-built bulb with a good driver runs completely flicker-free. That is what we make.
“The blue light ruins your sleep.”
Bright, cool, bluish light in the evening can affect sleep, and so can the phone in your hand. But color temperature is now a choice. A warm 2700K LED puts out very little blue light and gives you the same soft glow as the incandescent you grew up with.
“Incandescent was better. Bring it back.”
Incandescent wastes about 90% of its energy as heat, burns out in around 1,000 hours, and costs far more to run. A warm LED gives you that same golden light without the waste, the heat, or the constant replacing. The answer is not to go back. It is to choose a better bulb.
You don’t stare at your light bulbs.
If your eyes hurt and your sleep is wrecked, be honest about where the light is really coming from. It is the phone six inches from your face. It is the laptop all day and the TV all night. Nobody sits and stares into the bulb across the room.
So aim the worry at the right thing. Put the phone down earlier. Turn the screens down at night. Wear blue-light blockers if you want them. And use a warm bulb in the evening, which is easy now, because a good LED lets you choose one.
And no, incandescent isn’t gone.
We will never pretend otherwise. Specialty incandescent bulbs are still made and still needed, in ovens, appliances, and the countless specialty sockets where nothing else quite fits. If you need one, you can still buy one.
Here is the harder truth. The reason so many of those American factories are gone is not the light bulb. It is that we kept buying the cheap import instead of the one made here. Every time the cheaper foreign bulb won, another American line went quiet. If we had kept buying American, those factories would still be running today, still making the specialty incandescents the country depends on.
