A GU24 lamp includes a bi-pin connector for LED and CFL (compact fluorescent) bulbs, which functions like a bayonet mount that installs into a compatible fixture. Using a twist-and-lock feature to secure the bulb in the socket, this is in direct contrast to the standard Edison-style screw base that is found on most traditional bulbs. You cannot use a GU24 base bulb in a standard screw-style socket for (what I hope are) obvious reasons.
Several advantages to using GU24 bulbs over traditional screw base bulbs, given you have a compatible fixture, has much to do with the technology inherent to the bulbs, themselves:
They are self-ballasted
GU24 base bulbs use less energy and have a longer lifespan than traditional counterparts
They were designed to give a visual cue representing the GU24 base bulb as an energy-efficient bulb in comparison to a standard bulb
Several states require new construction to be furnished with GU24 socket fixtures to prevent the use of inefficient and energy-hungry incandescent lamps
Some examples of bulb shapes that use GU24 bases include A19, R30, BR40, PAR38, PL, Downlight Modules, and CFL Spiral or Twist bulbs, and GoodBulb is your go-to source for them all!
